About
Welcome to Crumbling Crucible, the repository of my animation reviews.
Truth is, I've been watching and enjoying animations for such a long
time, but recently I've been trying to make comprehensive reviews for reference. My friends often asked me about how I feel for a
certain animation, yet it is often impractical for me to explain my
feelings in daily conversation.
My goal here is to create a thorough film reference for many, but sadly it will not be always the case. Reviews are subjectives, therefore I'm not going to promise you that these reviews will reflect the general opinion of something. My taste, my enjoyment, even my experience will make it different for me and for you. I suggest to try watching anything first by yourself, than discuss it with others. And if you are thinking something along the line of "But, it's critically acclaimed so you are wrong to criticize it!" or "It's a bad movie because the audience didn't like it so your review is wrong!", I will retort with a simple phrase: Argumentum ad populum.
So, before viewing any reviews here, please try to watch the aforementioned first. Like I said, reviews can be highly subjective and you don't have to agree with me on all aspects. For example, my friends and I have different taste of films. They like popular, lightweight, and marketed towards young adults films, while I generally find lesser known films with heavy and dark themes. Yet, there are some films that all of us will agree to be good or bad.
In my reviews I try to have a philosophy or guideline that hopefully will be reflected on each of them.

- It's hard to differentiate objective and subjective point of view so you can have both. Therefore, I won't give you a numerical rating as it's a highly subjective one.
- Other than art films/animations, normal animations should at least contain clear message or purpose. In this day and age, many are only created for no other purpose than commercialism. Usually, it is reflected on or indicated by a disturbingly amount of fan-service scenes, stereotypical character designs, numerous plot holes, and recycled plot with cosmetic makeover.
- There are animations which don't have noticeable flaws yet at the same time don't necessarily strike me as overwhelmingly good. That means you'll find reviews where I kind of left out the negative aspects and just list out the good aspects. It's not that the piece itself is always a masterpiece (but some are truly magnum opus in my opinion), but I can't seem to find the weakness on the surface. I'm sure if you are desperate enough, you can find the smallest mistakes.
